Lawrence H. Callahan, 90, went home to the Lord and to be with his wife of 70 years, Rita, on July 10, 2016. Larry was born in Bethlehem, PA and like many young men of his generation, upon completing high school, joined the US Navy. The Navy sent him to central NY to begin his training where he met his lifelong friend Tony Orlen. Upon completion of his basic training he was commissioned an Ensign and sent to Dartmouth College to pursue further studies for the Navy. As he was completing his BA degree the war ended and upon graduating, he went to visit his friend Tony Orlen in Webster NY at a place called Glen Edythe, a beautiful spot on Irondequoit Bay. Here he met Rita Kress who was also a neighbor and friend of Tony. Larry and Rita were married in West Webster NY in January 1947. Larry continued in the Naval Reserve in the Rochester, NY area and retired in 1959 with the rank of lieutenant commander.

Larry tried his hand at a number of jobs in Rochester NY and finally found his calling at Anstice Foundry where he learned the foundry and pattern trade from the ground up. He eventually purchased Rochester Bronze and Aluminum foundry and made it a very successful business. His customers included major corporations including Kodak and Xerox. Larry sold this business in the 1980s and retired to Florida locating first at Del Ray Beach and then at Grand Harbor in Vero Beach. He and his wife Rita were founding members of the Harmony Island community, Larry being a long time board member of that association. The Callahans were also founding members of the Grand Harbor Golf Club. In 2006 he and Rita moved to Indian River Estates, a senior community also located in Vero Beach. They thoroughly enjoyed their apartment in the east wing and the comfort and security that Indian River offered. Rita died in January of 2016. Internment of Rita and Larry Callahan will be in the West Webster Cemetery, Maple Dr., West Webster, NY at a future date.

Larry leaves his nephew and niece on his wifes side Shirley and Norman Kolb of Fredericksburg, VA. He also leaves four nieces in the Bethlehem PA area: Chrystal Deegan, Tanya Schock, Tia Hart and Rebecca Callahan Ridgick. May he rest in peace.
