Leigh Kelly Wood, Born September 2, 1962.

Died at the young age of 60 on July 8, 2023 at Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Vero Beach, FL

Leigh was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived in Kearny, NJ until her High School years. The family moved to Spring Lake, NJ in 1978, where Leigh attended Manasquan High School and graduated in 1980. She later went on to work for Manasquan Post Office. Several years later in 1993, she moved with her two young sons to Ft. Pierce, FL to be closer to her Mom, Dad and Grandmother. Leigh worked for her parents at their restaurant Pickle’s in Vero Beach. Soon after she began working at the Vero Beach Post Office, eventually transferring to the Beachside Office. She worked for the US Postal Service for 37 years and was an anchor at the Beach Location for at least 20 years. Leigh loved her customers who were like family to her and always said that she would miss them most, if and when she ever retired.

She is survived by her sons Kevin Wood of Cream Ridge, NJ, Christian Wood of Ft. Pierce, FL. Her Parents, George and Joyce Horan, Ft. Pierce FL. Her sisters Gayle and Doug Walsh, Cream Ridge, NJ, Cathleen and Michael Dobranchin, Ft. Pierce FL. Allyson gave Leigh her beloved Grand Niece Sydney Grace, 3 years ago. Looking at her pictures and watching her videos gave Leigh so much joy!  Lastly, she is survived by her little boy Duffy, her wonderful little Yorkie that would never leave her side.

Leigh will be greatly missed by many.

Dear Family of Leigh Kelly Wood, Perhaps Leigh is the reason I went to the Cardinal Drive Post Office, instead of the Indian River Shores Post Office ( I live in IndianRiver Shores )all these 20 years! Leigh was the most helpful, knowledgeable and sweet person to have anyone wait on them! I always told her that I appreciated her help. We had enlightening conversations. I was abruptly and sadly awakened to her death today as I read her obituary on the door of the post office. I would have been aware of her untimely death sooner, but I had had surgery and was recuperating. Please accept my condolences and sincere sympathy at the passing of this beautiful individual! Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Leigh’s family and friends. We are so saddened to hear of Leigh’s sudden passing. We had prayed that Leigh would one day be back at the Post Office. I saw Leigh almost daily at the Beachside Post Office and Leigh always had a smile for everyone. We had so many things that we laughed about. I think Leigh loved sharing her photos and videos of her beautiful Great Niece Sydney Grace more than anything. Leigh would always be so excited when she had a new Photo or video of Sydney to show me. I always told Leigh that I thought Sydney was her little Mini Me! Our hearts go out to everyone who loved Leigh as she was a beautiful person inside and out and she will be missed every day. I can only imagine Leigh making everyone laugh in Heaven. May Leigh’s laughter live in everyone’s hearts. I hope all of the memories Leigh shared with her Mom and Dad, Sisters, Sons, Niece and Great Niece and friends will comfort your hearts for all your days. I feel very blessed to have known Leigh and to call her my friend.

I’m broken hearted. My sweet friend! I’ll forever miss your laugh, big bright smile and warm greeting “Hey Jen”. You cared so abundantly that we would have done anything for you. Meant what I told you. You are loved! Missed. Appreciated. Truly cared about. Praying for your loved ones as they struggle to understand why you had to leave so soon. Fly high beautiful!

I just saw the notice on the door of PO and am devastated, I had to look twice and left feeling deflated and very sad over the loss of “Leigh Leigh.” I have known her for over 20 years from the PO … she was always so helpful and our go to problem solver. We often spoke about her boys and her pup. She was just a wonderful, loving mom and person and will be missed by so many. I am sorry I missed her service and sending my thoughts and prayers to her family and friends. RIP Leigh! 🙁
