Meave Mary White, nee Luddy, age 85, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 at WillowBrooke Court Skilled Care facility at Indian River Estates. Meave’s brother, Bill Luddy was with her at the time of death.
Born in New York City, Meave was raised in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan. She attended the Good Shepherd elementary school and Cathedral High School. Meave continued her education at the college level attending Pace and Hunter Colleges, training in counseling and therapy. She maintained a lifelong involvement in the arts, including community theater and painting.
Meave worked as an executive assistant with the New York Telephone company until her retirement in 1988. She relocated from White Plains, New York to Vero Beach in 1999.
Meave quickly immersed herself in the Vero Beach community, participating in painting classes at the Vero Beach Art Museum and demonstrating her skills as a water colorist at local art shows. Popular response to her work brought painting commissions and led her to develop a line of custom artisanal greeting cards.
Much of the inspiration for her paintings was found in her travels to the four corners of the globe. Her adventurous spirit led Meave on travels through North and South America, Ireland, Europe, Russia, North Africa, Mid-East, India, Africa, Southeast Asia, China, Australia, and New Zealand. On her most recent voyage she achieved her goal of traveling to every continent when she set foot on the ice of Antarctica. Meave was planning her next cruise to the fiords of Norway when she was taken ill.
She passed away after a brief battle with a recurrence of cancer. Meave was predeceased by her sister Emma Turner of New York, and her parents Tim and Angela Luddy who emigrated to the United States from Ireland in the 1920’s and lived in Sandy Hook, CT.
Meave is survived by her two brothers, Tim Luddy of Houston TX, and Bill Luddy of Burbank, CA, two nieces, Lisa Leet of Dallas TX, and Maureen Martinez of Atlanta and six grand nieces and nephews. Fondly known in her extended family as “Big Meave” she leaves behind an array of cousins inspired by her sense of adventure, delighted by her humor and generosity of spirit, and touched by her love. Meave also leaves behind the many friends and acquaintances touched by her optimism, cheerfulness and boundless faith.
A Memorial Service has been scheduled for 10:30 am, April 9, 2021 at the large pavilion in Riverside Park at Vero Beach.
Contributions in Meave’s memory may be made to: Safespace of Indian River County, P.O. Box 2822, Vero Beach, FL 32961.
Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

Blessings to Meave’s family as you grieve the loss of this incredible lady. Many of us in Vero Beach will miss her constancy, her positive view on life, and her contagious smile. She had a knack of knowing just when you needed a hug or an extra minute, and she lived her faith, exuding love and service with all with whom she crossed paths. I will miss you Friend, and our jokes and giggles, tears and awarenesses. Thanks for sharing your experience, strength, and hope with me. ❤️
