Richard (Sailboat Dick) Byram passed away November 6, 2022, in Vero Beach, FL.

He was raised in Morris Plains, N.J. He worked 32 years for N.J. Bell Telephone Co. as a Repairman. He had four sons with his first wife Carolyn. Jody, Arthur, Matthew and Robert along with 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He enjoyed raising his family on a small farm in Booton Township, N.J.

He served his country for two years in the Army Signal Corp. He retired in 1985 to live on his catamaran sailboat (Free Spirt). He married his present wife, Patricia at the Vero Beach City Marina in 1988 while living abroad. They sailed the Bahamas extensively. He had a deep passion for all types of fishing. Crossbow hunting for Tilapia in the canals, west of Vero Beach, was his real passion. Bicycling was a daily event.

He was a musician, playing guitar and singing. He loved singing old time country music in the assisted living facilities and nursing homes in and around Vero Beach. He was a dedicated and grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 45 years, where he found the lord.

My sympathies to Pat and family. It was a joy knowing Sailboat Dick. I never knew if he’d show up at my dock in his kayak to say hello or I’d see him around town and beep at him on his bike. I also saw him in the rooms where he shared and helped so many people. He was a wonderful guy and will be greatly missed. My love ♥️ And prayers …from Shipwreck Suzy
