Richard H. “Dick” Stoll passed away unexpectedly on December 13, 2025, at his home in Vero Beach, FL.

Dick was born in Bayshore, NY February 12, 1942. He later moved with his family to Rangely, ME, where he developed a lasting love of the outdoors.

Dick earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Maine. His dislike of apples led to a Master’s Degree in Horticulture from the University of Florida, focusing on tropical crops.

He began his career as a scientist at the Citrus Research and Education Center in Lake Alfred, FL, where he met his wife of nearly 59 years, Sandy while at an event on the Florida Southern College campus. Together they moved to Vero Beach in 1968 to start their family.

Dick worked as a Supervisor at the South Puerto Rico Sugar Company, the precursor to Fellsmere Farms. As the industry evolved, he helped lead the farm’s transition into diversified crops, including citrus, vegetables, sod, and livestock. He later became a founding partner of Sun Ag, Inc.

A lifelong researcher and innovator, Dick made contributions to citrus production that continue to be referenced in university agricultural programs and textbooks. His work is often cited by the UF/IFAS researchers.

Dick loved sharing the land he cared for, hosting hunts, barbecues, skeet shoots, ATV rides, and his “all you can eat” orange tours from the back of his Fellsmere Farms Green truck. He concluded his 45-year career in Agronomy with the Florida Department of Agriculture, working to protect the citrus industry he cherished.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; his sons Steve (and wife Felicia), Jim, Doug (and wife Laurel); and grandchildren Paige and Brady and step-grandchildren Rollie and Ben

A Celebration of Life will be held January 7, 2026 at the Indian River Citrus Museum, 2140 14th Ave. Vero Beach, FL. A short service will be held at 2:00p, followed by visitation and refreshments.

A private burial will be held at his beloved Nantahala Lake in North Carolina.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
