Robert Alan Witzel, 72, of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, in hospice care after a brief illness.
Born June 8, 1953, in Beckley, West Virginia, Robert moved with his family to West Palm Beach in 1957, where he spent most of his life. A creative and curious spirit from an early age, he earned an Associate’s degree from Palm Beach Junior College and built a career as a commercial photographer, often working inside some of Palm Beach’s most beautiful estates, including Mar-a-Lago.
Robert was known for his artistic eye, love of storytelling, and ability to find beauty in the smallest things. He enjoyed painting, caring for plants, collecting antique cameras, and making friends wherever he went. He never met a stranger and was remembered for his humor, generosity, and compassion for the marginalized.
A man of strong faith, Robert was an active member of Fellsmere First Baptist Church. His life reflected his belief in God’s grace, love, and forgiveness, and his family finds comfort in imagining that he is now dancing with Jesus.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Gries Witzel; his children, Heather Witzel and Rob Witzel (Marian); his grandchildren, Hannah Roth, Richard “Ricky” Roth, Ryan Witzel, and Kathleen Ryan; and his siblings Penny Cahill, Richard Witzel, and Linda Witzel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Helen Witzel and Alan Macewein Witzel, and his brother Bill Yeager.
Robert will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery in West Palm Beach. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
