Robert (Bob) Boals passed away on July 22nd while surrounded by family, after a 2-year battle with lung cancer.

For 39 years, Rob had an immensely successful career in the coin-op industry. Besides being able to travel the world and build lasting relationships, Rob had natural instincts that helped him excel and change the industry as we see it today. Ask anyone in the arcade business and they’ll have a story about Rob Boals.

After retiring from Betson Enterprises in 2019, Rob and his wife Darby moved from New Jersey to Florida to enjoy their own personal paradise. When he wasn’t shooting under par on the golf course, Rob could be found at the dog park with his 2 German Shepherds Ruger and Stella whom he loved like children. Besides his family, his greatest loves were golf, the Yankees and God.

After a lifetime of struggling with alcoholism, Rob finally found the missing piece to his sobriety journey. His faith in God was the paramount reason for his success with the program and he was able to help countless others in their own journeys and their relationships with God. Rob was a member of Christ Fellowship Church PSL where he made many friends and used his natural leadership skills to help others through Celebrate Recovery.

A true leader and motivator, he inspired those around him to be open with their feelings and emotions. His life was filled with purpose, intention and, most of all, love. While our hearts are devastated by his loss, our souls are thankful for the guidance he provided and the comfort in knowing he is rejoicing in Heaven.

Rob was preceded in death by his mother, Yvonne, father Loved Lee, brother Michael David and son Christopher. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Darby, daughters Morgan and Kelsey, sister Linda (spouse: Gary), brothers Mark and John (spouse: Karla), sister-in-law Lorna, daughter-in-law Marisa, grandchildren Brianna, Christopher and Maddie, his best friend Tony and his Brother in Sobriety Vincent. Along with numerous other friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life to be held at a later date. Details to follow.

“As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend”. – Proverbs 27:17

Rob truly is an incredible man of God who impacted my life personally and I was inspired as I watched him be an example of true faith in Christ looks like, fully surrendered! My heart is rejoicing for his eternal home coming and aching for the physical loss of his presence here on earth, although Rob leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten! My love and prayers to his precious family!

We will miss Bob. He was so loved. He had a kind and caring heart. He was willing to help anyone who asked for help. He never met a stranger. I remember it was on Sunday and my grandson needed a nebulizer at the time, Bob was actually in the hospital struggling with cancer, and he said are you gonna get him the nebulizer? I said I don’t have enough money. He said I’ll send you the money. Go get the nebulizer for your grandson. He was not thinking of himself while he was in the hospital. He was still trying to help. He’s a good person. I will miss him. He has helped me so much in Celebrate Recovery. When I walked to the back of the room and say, hey Bob, do you have the count? he would give me a big Smile, nod his head, and say yes got it showing his counter. Bob, I will miss you. you’re in a better place and I will see you again my friend. Rest in Paradise

Bob, you left this world way too soon. I have fond memories of working with Bob in the 80’s and 90’s. I remember when he met Darby at a Sega event. He called me the next morning to tell me “I am in Love”. I think we planned a few Atari visits for him so he could see her again. The love story was so heartfelt. I love that we remained friends through the years and could pick up the phone anytime to catch up. I will miss him. Prayers for Darby, Morgan, Kelsey, additional family members.

Losing a mentor of this caliber hurts to the core. “Write it down!” I can still hear those words till this day! I carry a notebook always because of him. Loved him like a father. Before he retired our last conversation sticks in head. Rich he said now it’s time for you to teach what I’ve taught you. I’ll never forget him. My most sincere Condolences Boals family. He will be missed.
