Robert R. Gay of Vero Beach, Florida died on September 16, 2021 after an extended illness, leaving behind his wife of 63 years, Janice. Bob was born April 22, 1935 in Fitchburg, MA, the son of Ralph & Loretta Gay. He graduated from Fitchburg High School and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. After returning from the service, Bob met Janice who coincidentally graduated from the same high school. He and Janice were married in 1958 and together they raised three children.
Bob started his career with New England Bell attending college at night to earn a degree in civil engineering. He later had the opportunity to transfer his family to Florida. In 1972 he was assigned to phone communications for the political conventions in Miami Beach. After the conventions he transferred to Vero Beach where he spent the remainder of his 30 year career with the telephone company. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. After retiring from the phone company in 1987, Bob & Jan spent half the year on the road where Bob performed various telephone contract positions throughout the U.S. They were fortunate to experience extensive international travel visiting 55 countries while not away on business. Bob also visited Cuba while he was in the service. They made many friends during their travels, some of which joined them on additional trips. Traveling and exploring other places was their lifetime dream.
Bob and Jan joined the Community Church in 1974 where Bob faithfully served as an usher for about 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Gay, his children David Gay, Debbi Albanese (Vincent), Lisa Hahn, and grandchildren Michele Albanese, Samantha Hahn, and Eric Hahn, his sister Elaine LaRoche and her family including Brian LaRoche, Stephen LaRoche and Lauren Cline.
A Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Community Church of Vero Beach.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to VNA Hospice of the Treasure Coast or the Community Church of Vero Beach.

I am so sorry to hear about Bob’s passing. We both worked for AT&T at the same time. I also enjoyed his company on our rides to Fort Pierce to the packing house. He will be missed
