Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
Rolland Spaulding Marsh, 83, passed on to heaven on March 21, 2020 at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, Florida following a brief illness. Loving family surrounded him.
“Rolly” was born in Rochester NH on December 18, 1936 to the late Robert Daniel and Louise (Paige) Marsh and was named for the former governor of NH. He was a graduate of Spaulding High School.
On June 15, 1958 he graduated from the University of NH with a degree in Chemical Engineering. On the same day, he married his high school sweetheart, Jean (Hickey). Having been enrolled in ROTC, he immediately moved with his new wife to Texas to serve in the US Air Force. Upon completion of his duties, they settled in Millinocket, Rumford and Acton, Maine where he worked in Research, Coated Specialties and Sales in the Pulp and Paper Industry from 1961 until his retirement in 1999. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from the Whittemore School of Business, UNH in 1984. Most recently, he lived in Vero Beach, Florida and was an active member in the Grove Isle Community.
Rolly was an adventurer and competitor at heart. An avid hunter and fisherman, he treasured sharing time in the woods of Bowmantown, Maine with dear friends and family. He served many years on the Ski Patrol and Polish B Ski Team at Black Mountain of Maine. He ran 3 marathons including NYC and Boston. He also enjoyed whitewater canoe racing. He was passionate about sailing, racing on lakes and seeking harbors along the Maine Coast and in foreign waters including 8 winters sailing in the Bahamas on his vessel, The Green Parrot. His greatest joy was spending time with family especially at Great East Lake. He lived an incredibly full life surrounded by many who admired and loved him.
His family includes his beloved wife of 62 years, Jean (Hickey) and daughter Susan Marsh Perry and her husband Dave and son Todd Rolland Marsh and his late wife Chris (Amos); grandchildren, Rachel (Perry) and husband, Adam Mead, Courtney Jean (Perry) and husband Tomer Kilchevsky, Derek Perry and wife Amanda and Jacob Rolland Perry; brothers, Robert Marsh, II and wife Patricia, the late Richard Marsh and wife Barbara; brother-in-law, Bob Hickey and wife Sharon; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and very dear friends. His bright, generous spirit shaped us. He will be deeply missed but left indelible memories for all of us to share.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Grace Rehabilitation Center of Vero Beach. Their loving care made Grace a second home during his intermittent stays following the stroke he suffered 3 years ago. Their encouragement and therapies helped him to enjoy the remainder of his life.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Grace Rehabilitation Center of Vero Beach, Physical Therapy Services, 2180 10th Ave, Vero Beach, FL 32960
