Ronald R. McCall, Sr. passed peacefully in his sleep at the VNA Hospice House on November 22nd, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born in Vero Beach on July 1st, 1935, to John L. McCall and Myrtle Skinner McCall. Both his parents were pioneer families to Indian River County; a fact Ronnie held with pride.

Ronnie loved his time at Vero Beach High School as a Fighting Indian, lettering in 4 sports. His time there led him to his beloved Lottie Ortkiese, whom he lost in March of last year after more than sixty-seven years of marriage.

He was a graduate of North Park College in Chicago. Following college and other considerations, Ronnie returned to Vero Beach to begin a lifelong career in the life and casualty insurance business.

Ronnie’s career in the insurance business spanned more than 50 years. He became the agency manager of Indian River County Farm Bureau, led his team at Southern Farm Bureau to the Top Agency for a number of years.

Upon retirement, he enjoyed summers with his wife Lottie in Bryson City, North Carolina in their beloved mountain house. He also finally found time to tend to his many pepper varieties and other vegetables in his garden.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his wife, Lottie (2024) and his son, Kevin (2025) and daughter, Jennifer (2025), as well as his brother, Dale.

He is survived by his son Ron R. McCall, II (Diana). His grandchildren Katherine McRae (David); Ronald R. McCall, III (Zoe); Sarah McCall (Terry); Brian K McCall (Heather); Patrick Whiting McCall (Tamra Tucker). His siblings, Jerry McCall; Joann Bond; Larry McCall (Flora); Sandra Jones; Mike McCall (Janine). As well as seven great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, friends and business associates.

Many thanks for the excellent care at the Cleveland Clinic of Indian River, Encompass, The Brennity and VNA Hospice.

A private burial was held at Crestlawn Cemetery with a memorial service 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 8th, 2025, at the First Methodist Church in downtown Vero Beach.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

My condolences to the entire family. His parents and my parents were friends and I had done to school with some of his siblings. Prayers are being said!

Pops, you did what you said you would do – lived to be 90. I thoroughly enjoyed our visits when you popped in the office and you have definitely left a large void with all of the employees. I will cherish our visits and all of the history stories regarding Vero Beach. You were such a kind hearted man and I will miss you. Can’t help but think of you every time I drive by Taco Bell. Rest in peace and enjoy your eternal life with your wife.
