Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
Roy Donald Deeson, age 83, passed peacefully from his earthly life to his eternal home July 21, 2025, with his family at his side. He had suffered in recent years with a debilitating illness.
Don was a native Floridian, a true Florida Gator at heart. He was born in Lakeland February 18, 1942, to James M. and Elberta P. Deeson. Graduating from Lakeland Senior High School in 1960, he began a 40 year career in banking. Don and Judy Pope were married in 1963, and they celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Always patriotic, Don served in the U. S. Army, PVT E-2, during 1967 at Fort Polk (Tiger Land), Louisiana and then as Specialist Four in the U. S. Army Reserve in Lakeland, Florida until his honorable discharge in 1972.
Don’s banking career moved his family from Lakeland to Sebastian and later to Vero Beach. He was active in community life as part of the Lions Club of Sebastian and Founder and Past President of the Sebastian Little League. From 1976 to 1980, Don served on the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners and later he and Judy were co-chairs of a United Way campaign.
In addition to his civic activities, Don was always faithful to his church. He was a deacon at Vero Beach First Baptist Church and later an elder at Immanuel Baptist Church.
In addition to Judy, Don is survived by his daughter Sheri (Greg) Miller of Jacksonville; son Jon-David Deeson of Knoxville, TN; and his sister Ramona Bowman of Tallahassee. He was beloved Papaw to Evan and Audrey Miller and Mitchell and Mallory Deeson.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025, 10:30 a.m. at Pathway Church, 1105 58th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL.
