Rudy Culumber, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home on November 14, 2023, surrounded by family, at the age of 82.

Rudy was born July 4, 1941, in Pana, Illinois.

In 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary, and they started their lives together in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Rudy was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, for over 60 years.

In 1984, he sold his asphalt paving company in Hillside, Illinois to move to Vero Beach.

Some of his passions included his grandchildren, gardening, and golf. He was a kind and gentle soul who touched the lives of many. Through golf, he and Mary were able to travel and experience the world together, with their friends. However, his greatest golf accomplishments happened here at home, at The Vero Beach Country Club, including several hole-in-ones and a double eagle on the 15th hole.

Rudy had a great sense of humor and could always make those around him laugh. He was also a great listener; always willing to lend an ear and offer wise advice.

Rudy’s memory will live on in the hearts of family & friends. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, loving heart, wonderful sense of humor, and love of simple things.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Mary; two children, Dan (Rose) of Vero Beach and Karen (Gary) Storts of Land O’ Lakes; seven grandchildren, Nick, Jordan (Beth), Jared, Daniel, Shelbi, Kaci, and Jaxon; sisters, Myra May, Jean Welsh, and Diane Olsen; brother, Tom (Sandy) Culumber; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Howard, and Rosaleen Culumber; brother, Mike Culumber; and twin sister, Judy Dieter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 24, 2023, at St. Helen Catholic Church followed by inurnment at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach.

In lieu of flowers, Rudy has requested a donation be made to The Garden Club of Indian River County, 2526 17th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32960, or your preferred charity.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
