Thomas A. Sassen, age 95, of Vero Beach, FL passed away peacefully at VNA Hospice House on December 3, 2024.
He is predeceased by his wife, Martha and survived by his daughter, Deborah (James) Brugler; grandsons, Christopher (Jessica), Scott (Nicole), and Eric (Kelly) Brugler; along with his great-grandchildren, Whit, Fritz, Annabelle, Zach, and J.J. Brugler.
Thomas was born April 7, 1929 in Springfield, Ohio to Aloysius and Nellie Sassen and resided there throughout his childhood. From 1952-1954 he served honorably as an Army Supply Sergeant in the Korean War, returned to the states and graduated from Xavier University. His career took him to Youngstown, Ohio where he worked as an Assistant Superintendent in the Steel Industry. It was there that he got married and raised his family before moving to Vero Beach upon retirement.
Thomas was an avid golfer and played quite regularly from an early age right up until 90 year’s old. Although he cherished his time on the course, his first love was undoubtedly his wife of 65 years and their passion for traveling the world together. Thomas was blessed with leading and loving four generations, who paid him frequent, treasured visits.
A private Memorial Service and Burial will be held on December 27th, 10:00am at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Thomas’ name to the VNA Hospice Foundation, https://foundation.vnatc.com/donate-now/
Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
