Chico Greene played a huge part of many baseball players’ lives when we were growing up in northern NJ, specifically in the Newton area. His management of the semipro Newton AA team at Memory Park is legendary. Condolences to his family and close friends from this fellow longtime Sussex Countian-who-also-transitioned-to-Florida (Atlantis) in retirement. R.I.P., Wayne.

We read of Chico’s passing in our local paper. It has been years since we saw Chico, but we have fond memories of time shared in Newton, NJ. Chico managed Newton AA baseball and my husband played for him from 1959 – 1971. Ralph (Binky) Shotwell played centerfield while most other positions were filled with the same people all that time. It was a close-knit team, fostered by Chico. He was generous with his time. They played to win, but had a good time doing it. Chico was a good man, who loved the sport of baseball and willingly gave his time to Newton AA. While he has been gone from our lives more than 50 years, we have fond memories of Chico. Sincerely, Judy Shotwell

The Vitale family leaves our condolences with your family. Hearing of Wayne’s passing brings me great sorrow. I always considered Wayne my second father who taught me the game of baseball the way it should be played. With that I instilled those same virtues in my son who was able to enjoy and play the game to the best of his ability. Wayne’s stories always brought great pleasure and will be deeply missed. With great sympathy, Gregg & Juli Vitale
