Alice Hollingsworth Douberley, age 80, peacefully departed this earthly life at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach on Thursday, May 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Alice was born November 7, 1943, to Violet and John Hollingsworth in Cookeville, Tennessee.  Alice moved shortly afterward to Avon Park, Florida, where she lived a full, loving, family-oriented upbringing as the youngest sister of three.

Alice graduated from Avon Park High School, earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida, and her Master of Education from Florida Atlantic University.  She retired from the Indian River County School District as a middle school teacher.

A Christian since childhood, Alice had a strong faith and was a member of the Roseland United Methodist Church.  She loved reading and fostered it in family members with her many gifts of books.  She enjoyed genealogy and studying her family history, using her skills to help others in their research. Alice also enjoyed travel, gardening, and especially her “pups” whom she spoiled.  A person who enjoyed both her home and Christmas, she was known to decorate a wee bit too much during the holidays.

Alice is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Tommy Douberley of Sebastian, Florida; three children: Sherrie (Rick) Matthews of Sebastian, FL, Susan (Ronnie) Slade of Vero Beach, FL and Greg (Brandy) Douberley of Owasso, OK; grandchildren: Ryan (Erin) Matthews, Kristopher (Allison) Matthews, Sarah Douberley, Abby Douberley, and great grandchild Finn Matthews, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was predeceased by her parents, Violet and John Hollingsworth, brother James Williams, and sister Doris Bush.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Alice at the Roseland United Methodist Church, 12962 Roseland Road, Sebastian, FL 32958 on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Pelican Garden Assisted Living, 177 Empress Street, Sebastian FL 32958, or the VNA Hospice House, 910 37th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
