Barbara Britton, a former nurse, died after a long illness on June 15, 2021 at the age of 78 in Vero Beach, where she had lived since 2014. She worked for many years at the North Shore LIJ Glen Cove Hospital and also ran a home-care agency. Before moving to Florida, Barbara spent most of her life in Bayville, NY.

Barbara is survived by her husband Bill, her brother Bob in Ohio and his children, her three children, eleven grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren. Barbara is the daughter of the late Solveig and Vincent Holm and grew up in Oyster Bay and Syosset, New York.

Barbara enjoyed sailing, hiking, camping, and skiing and was an active parent at Long Island Lutheran High School, where she was co-recipient of the Pro Deo et Schola Award.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601. A private memorial service is planned. Condolences may be sent to Bill Britton at 2400 Indian Creek Blvd. West, Apt. E217, Vero Beach, FL 32966.

She was my sister-in-law Christine’s mother. Barbara Britton had spunk. Besides being intelligent and everything else on her résumé. Christine lost her mommy. I would like to light a candle

She had unconditional love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
