Caesar V. Mistretta, 79, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on May 20, 2026.

His smile was his business card.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Caesar lived a life rich in passion, creativity, and warmth. He spent over 30 years in the financial industry before following his heart into the world of fine art. Caesar and his partner John M. Stringer opened and operated The J.M. Stringer Gallery of Fine Art in Bernardsville, NJ and Vero Beach, FL over the last 25 years of his career.

Caesar had a deep love for cooking, dancing, theatre, and the arts. He was an avid reader, an enthusiastic Mah Jongg player, and a devoted world traveler. He cherished his two miniature Yorkshire Terriers, Joey and Coco, who were constant companions and a source of endless joy.

He is survived by his spouse and partner in life and business of 47 years, John M. Stringer; his children, Caesar V. Mistretta Jr. (Martha) and Constance LoSauro (Frank); his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Amanda, Amelia, and Cecilia; and his brothers, Robert and Ronald Mistretta.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, 1655 27th Street, Vero Beach, Florida

Dearest John, We send to you and the entire family our most heartfelt condolences. It was our absolute pleasure to know Caesar. I will always remember his gentle spirit, wonderful smile and the delicious Italian meal he so thoughtfully prepared for us. He was certainly quite the cook! Everything he did was done with dignity and grace. Sending love and continued prayers for comfort and strength. Phil and Debra Kannel

When I was a teenager I worked for Caesar and John for a few months at their gallery. As a kid, filled with anxiety and self doubt, Caesar and John gave me so much happiness and joy in such a small amount of time. Caesar was and still is in our memories, an unbelievably sweet person.
