Charles Denis Koeniguer, age 62, of Vero Beach, passed away November 16, 2017.

He was born on January 7, 1955 in Flushing, New York, to the late Rene and Josephine (Meyer) Koeniguer.

Charles had enjoyed living in Vero Beach during his youth and returned in 2002, coming from Edmond, Oklahoma.

Mr. Koeniguer served in the United States Air Force, and later retired as an Air Force Officer. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Combat Readiness Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Air Force Overseas Service Ribbon Short Tour, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.

Charles was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Arkansas, Little Rock, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice.

“Mr. K” as he was lovingly referred to by his adoring students, retired from Indian River Charter High School, where he taught world history, for 12 years prior to his retirement. “Like a story” was his teaching style, taking students on a journey, while remaining truthful and treating all as young adults, “he was the best history teacher ever!” Mr. K and his students even built a trebuchet! In October 2017, Charles was blessed to attend the dedication of the Charles Koeniguer Innovation Building at Indian River Charter High School.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Koeniguer; his son, Capt. Donald C. Koeniguer & wife, Jess of Las Vegas, NV; and three grandchildren, Gabriel, Charles, and David.

A Requiem Mass with Full Funeral Military Honors will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 1795 45th St, Vero Beach, FL 32967.
