Dr. Chester “Chet” Harris Whitfield, age 93, passed away peacefully at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, on March 22nd 2017. His loving wife, Corinne “Krin” Trayner Whitfield of 47 years, age 92, also passed away peacefully at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, on March 20th 2017.

They were married in Atlanta, GA in 1970. They are lovingly remembered by Chet’s five children; Larry, Rick and Paul Whitfield, Joanne Whitfield Partridge and Dale Whitfield Budde, and Krin’s daughter, Beth Howard Patria. Chet is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and his previous wife Joyce S. Smith. Krin is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Dr. Whitfield was born in Flint Michigan on July 20th 1923. He grew up in Listowel, Ontario, Canada and later moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario. He was drafted into the US Army in 1943 and served in France for 18 months as a rear echelon medical technician. After his military duty he attended the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, following in his Dad’s profession. Upon graduation he practiced shortly with his father in Niagara Falls.

In 1952 the Whitfield family moved to Vero Beach where Chet continued his practice for nearly 40 years, specializing in Applied Kinesiology. Chet was a husband, father, papaw and 36 year member of the Vero Beach Country Club as a 6 handicapper. As an accomplished wood worker Chet built a 16 foot outboard boat, was an instrument rated private pilot and a business associate of Mel Fisher; Mel’s Team found the Nuestra Señora de Atocha on Chet’s 62nd birthday, July 20th 1985.

Krin Whitfield was born in Junction City, KY on April 2nd 1924. She was an accomplished tournament bowler, loved water skiing and playing golf. Aside from being Chet’s wife, she was his administrative assistant in his practice.

Chet and Krin enjoyed traveling in their customized camper and saw much of North America. A summer cabin near Newland, NC was their special place for many years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the VNA Hospice House. The families of Dr. Chet and Krin Whitfield wish to thank VNA Hospice and Seniors Helping Seniors, who provided exceptional and loving care for the Whitfield’s and their family.
