Earnest Albert Strahosky, age 91, died on February 23, 2018 at St. Lucie Hospice House.

He was born in Bay Village, Ohio on December 22, 1926, the middle child, during the depression. Ernie graduated from Euclid Shore High School.

He joined the Merchant Marines and served on a hospital ship bringing wounded soldiers home. Later he served in the U.S. Army.

Ernie was a star basketball player in the class A division in Cleveland, Ohio.

He met his wife Mary, in Mentor, Ohio. They were married November 27, 1948. Ernie’s happiest times were spent fishing. He fished all the way from Canada to Key West and he always caught something.

Ernie and his wife, owned and operated a Mom and Pop Grocery store, the Bedford Heights Superette in Ohio.

In 1962, they moved to Miami Beach where they owned and operated the Beachwood Apartments, for 25 years.

He also worked as a machinist and retired from the City of Miami Beach.

After retirement they moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico. They traveled throughout the west, Hawaii and Alaska.

In 1992, they moved to Vero Beach, Ernie attended St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years Mary; daughter, Dr. Susan Strahosky and husband, James Roberts of Auburn, NH; son, Capt. Mel Strahosky and wife Suzanne of Key West; grandson, Miles Roberts of Brighton, MA, granddaughter, Nadia Roberts of Auburn, NH, brother-in-law, Steve Batko and wife Helen of Stow, Ohio as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., April 21, 2018 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church with Father Michael Goldberg, officiating. There will be a reception to follow.

Ernie’s final resting place will be the ocean, where he spent many happy hours.

ernie was great guy I remember him going fishing on the drift boat the reward out of Miami beach fl. we fished together a few times. was a good guy to work with at mechanical maint. division city of Miami beach
