Francis J. Bradley, M.D. died peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the age of 91 in Vero Beach, Florida.

He was born on May 13, 1931 in Newark, New Jersey to Elizabeth Bradley, neé Weiss and was raised by his mother in New York City and Newark, New Jersey. After serving in the United States Army for four years,he attended Seton Hall University on the GI Bill and then the New Jersey College of Medicine on a scholarship from General Electric, where he graduated with Honors in 1962. He served his residency at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear where he specialized in ophthalmology. During his residency he met his beloved wife, Gertrude, to whom he was married for 61 years. They had four children – Frances, Eleanor, Kenneth and Edward and seven grandchildren – Sean, Matthew, Scott, Allyson, Alex, Katherine and Kyle, all of whom were beloved by him.

Dr. Bradley practiced ophthalmology for over 40 years from his office in Colonia, New Jersey. He was extremely devoted to his patients and took tremendous pride in the fact that he was able to help so many in his community. Due to his love of the game of golf, he made sure to have his office within walking distance from his beloved Colonia Country Club, where he played thousands of rounds during his 30 plus years as a member, made 4 “holes in one” and established life-long friendships.

After retiring to Vero Beach, Florida, he and Gert engaged in their favorite pastimes of golf, going out to dinner, spending time with their grandchildren and socializing with their many friends. He also set aside time each morning for the New York Times crossword puzzle, and nearly always completed it before breakfast. Dr. Bradley was a devout Catholic and a parishioner at Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach for over 20 years.

Dr. Bradley is survived by his wife, Gertrude, his children Frances (Thomas), Eleanor (Robert), Kenneth (Lynne) and Edward, and his grandchildren, Sean, Matthew, Scott, Allyson, Alex, Katherine, and Kyle. He was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth, his brother Maurice and his sisters Margaret and Mary.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 500 Iris Lane, Vero Beach, Florida, 32963. Burial details are to be determined.
