Jeanne Courtney, 91, of Vero Beach Florida, formerly of Upper Montclair and Verona New Jersey, passed away late on Thursday, February 4th 2016 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach Florida, after a very brief illness.

Born August 7, 1924 in Glen Ridge New Jersey, Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Emily Cox, her Sister, Patsy Snyder, and her husband Christopher Andrew Courtney.
Jeanne graduated from Montclair high school in 1942. Shortly thereafter, she joined the United States NAVY and served our country during World War II, where she met and married Irishman, Chris Courtney. Jeanne and Chris were married for 57 years, raised 4 boys while living in Roseland, Verona and Surf City New Jersey. They relocated to Vero Beach in 1975. Jeanne went to work for the Indian River County School District as the Administrative Assistant of Personnel, and retired in 1988. During her retirement, Jeanne enjoyed painting, was an avid reader, and treasured her time with her friends and family. Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach is providing the final transition for Jeanne. Following a private family ceremony at the Sebastian Inlet, Jeanne�s ashes will be cast to sea.

Jeanne is survived by her sister, Sally Holloway of Virginia, brother Dr. Robert (Gwen) Cox of Bayshore, New York, son Robert (Carol) Courtney of Tamarac, Florida, son Thomas (Robin) Courtney of Merritt Island, Florida, son Christopher (Donna) Courtney of Fredericksburg, Virginia, son Steven (Melissa) Courtney of Vero Beach, Florida, 10 grandchildren, Andrew Courtney of Williston, Florida, Michael Courtney of Orlando Florida, Richard Courtney of Davie Florida, Jill (Jason) Dail of Virginia, Dr. Sean Courtney of Atlanta, Georgia, Charise (Josh) Courtney-Swetts of Thomaston, Connecticut, Ashley (Kurt) Bangert of Sebastian, Florida, Jennifer Courtney-Ryan of Vero Beach, Florida, Christopher Courtney (Sami Ramirez) of Vero Beach, Florida, and 7 Great grandchildren, Taylor Dail, Brooks Dail, Liberty Jeanne DeMatteis, Aiden Cline, Reilly Courtney, Madison Ryan and newborn Kason Bangert.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast for their support.
