Jo-Marie McBean, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Vero Beach, Florida, on June 15, 2026.

Born on May 10, 1941, in Gwanda, Rhodesia, Jo-Marie lived a remarkable life marked by resilience, determination, and grace. She spent many years in Plantation, Florida, before making her home in Vero Beach. Throughout her career as a real estate broker, she built lasting relationships and earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

Jo-Marie was an active member of the Plantation and Hollywood Garden Clubs and found joy in cultivating beauty through her love of gardening and community involvement.

A woman of extraordinary strength and independence, Jo-Marie faced life’s challenges with courage and unwavering resolve. She was a guiding light to those who knew and loved her—a strong, spirited, and sometimes stubborn woman whose presence could fill a room. Her determination, wisdom, and fierce love for her family made her a powerful force of nature whose impact will be felt for generations.

She is survived by her sons, Lachlan John McBean and Duncan M. McBean; and her cherished grandchildren, Felicia, Farah, Duncan D, and Lachlie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lachlan McBean.

Jo-Marie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be mailed to 2169 42nd Court SW, Vero Beach, FL 32968.

Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory in Vero Beach.

Jo Marie and I worked fir several years at the Plantation Museum Butterfly Garden. She was a very hard worker. We enjoyed the garden work. She was so much fun to be with. I miss her already. I have really missed her since she moved to Vero, now I can”t even go see her. Orpha Hirst.

She was an amazing woman with a fantastic personality who had a passion for plants like us all. I remember she would tell me about her past when she was living in Africa and her father calling all the heads of many tribes together with the sounds of drums. Her mother would prepare the food from scratch. She was one in a million; a special lady who I met thru the Hollywood Garden Club, I will miss her. Susan Berry

We remember her as strong mother, loving wife and close friend. Both of our families were far from home while living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for almost 5 years together while our engineer fathers built an aluminum smelter. We lived near to each other and went to school together. Jo-Marie was just the sort of person you would want on your adventure abroad. She adopted quickly and lived with real “Ginga” a Brazilian term referring to an effortless, confident flair or swagger in the way a person walks, dances, or carries themselves. Much Love from all of the Golde’s to then entire McBean Clan.

Lach and Duncan, your mom was one of those special people who could touch lives and be involved even from afar. We only had that one family holiday together in Zimbabwe when we were kids but because your mom was such a good communicator it was easy to stay in touch. She was interested and interesting and I miss getting her messages. I can only imagine the impact of her absence in your lives Know that we join you across the miles in both mourning your loss and celebrating the life Auntie Jo lived so fully!
