Joan Gentile, age 90, of Hutchinson Island, FL
formerly of Huntington, NY, peacefully passed away on
Thursday February 8, 2024.
Born on January 27, 1934 in Glendale, NY, she was the beloved daughter of Frederick & Blanche Betthenhauser.
Joan is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Michael Gentile. She is survived by her children, Mindy Distante (Mark) of Waxhaw NC and Larry Gentile (Vilma) of Dix Hills, NY; Dear grandmother of Michael Distante, Matthew Distante, Joseph Distante, Melissa Gentile, Michael Gentile and Madison Gentile.
She was the dear sister of Robert, Lorraine, Betty, Anna, Frederick, Charles and William.
Joan had many hobbies through the years from sewing, clay pottery & quilting.
She will be most remembered for the love of her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews.
She gave the best of herself to her children and grandkids, always.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 10:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 15th, 2024 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory located at 1655 27th Street Vero Beach, with a prayer service immediately following at 11:00 a.m.

My Aunt Joan was like a big sister to me. I am so glad I got to visit with her a couple of times to let her know I loved her, and always will. She and Uncle Mike were married 60 years, celebrating last October. On her 90th birthday in January, they celebrated another landmark, before she passed peacefully in Hospice care. Praying for the family for peace and comfort through their great loss. Until we meet again, my angel aunt, my heart has precious memories.

Blessing and sympathy as we celebrate Aunt Joan’s exemplary life of loving service to her family. Your loss is so much greater, of course;
but our deep sorrow will have precious memories of who she was as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt: A beautiful, humble, loving spirit as everyone who knew her would attest. God bless each of you.

Dearest Michael Gentile, Larry and Mindy, I’m so sorry about Joan’s passing. So many memories come flooding back of spending time at your house. I still make the tomato sauce the way Joan taught me. She was a lovely lady, very kind and generous. May she rest in peace With love, Isolete

To Uncle Mike, Larry and Mindy. We are so sorry about Aunt Joan’s passing. I have so many memories of sleeping over during the summer and spending time with everyone when I was a teenager. I took her name Joan for my confirmation name. I remember the times she taught me how to make Hungarian pastry and the Christmas fudge which I still make. I would come over and help and stay for the weekend. Aunt Joan was a loving and kind person. I know she is in heaven now with her family members who left us too soon. With love Laura and Kevin
