Kenneth Wright Damerow, age 96, passed away August 2, 2018 at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was born in Wabasso, Florida to Harry and Gladys Damerow and was a resident of Vero Beach for most of his life.

Kenneth graduated from Vero Beach High School and from University of Iowa with a BA in Civil Engineering. Following graduation he was sent to work on WWII bomber planes at Convair in Ft. Worth, Texas. Later he worked in California, Texas (the Baytown tunnel to Houston), Louisiana (Lake Pontchartrain causeway to New Orleans) and Miami (Florida Turnpike).

Kenneth met Martha Marshall in Sunday School in Baytown, Texas and they were married on July 23, 1955. Shortly after they moved to Vero Beach where he went to work with his father, also a Civil Engineer. Kenneth worked on many projects in Indian River County, including the Diesel Power Plant expansion, Vero Beach Electric Power Plant, Sebastian Inlet projects, IRC Mosquito Control, Vero Isles and The Moorings.

He loved being outdoors, walking/hiking and gardening. For many years he attended Rare Fruit Council meetings and brought home new fruits to plant in his yard. He had a natural curiosity and continued learning his whole life. Kenneth liked to keep fit and strong by going to the gym to lift weights. At 96 he still had a strong, firm handshake that elicited comments from many people. Family brought him the greatest joy. He loved family gatherings. He was enormously proud of the accomplishments of his children, their spouses and his grandchildren.

Kenneth joins his late wife in Heaven. He is survived by his sister, Alice Giventer; children, Fred Damerow (Michelle) of Kennewick, WA, David Damerow (Susan) of Palm Bay, FL, Marsha Damerow of Vero Beach and Abby Flinchum (Russell) of Vero Beach; 10 grandchildren Amy and Eric Damerow, Lara Yan, Morgan, McKenzie, Dylan and Gunnar Flinchum, Daisa and Dakota Damerow, and Clare McGuffey; one great granddaughter Molly Damerow; and his niece Susan Giventer.

Kenneth was a member of First United Methodist Church, Vero Beach.

No service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.
