Mrs. Lora Grayce Scanlan (née Manzari), of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on June 8, 2026.

Born in New York City on December 6, 1934, to the late Vito and Margaret Manzari, Lora was raised in Lindenhurst, New York, alongside her brothers, Vincent and Joseph. She graduated from Lindenhurst High School in 1952 and began working for the Village of Lindenhurst. She soon met the love of her life, David Scanlan, and they were married on October 6, 1956.

Together, Lora and Dave built a life centered on family and friendship, raising their three children in Hampton Bays, New York, where they formed many lifelong friendships. Lora devoted herself to her family as an on-the-go mom while also working as a bookkeeper at Farmer’s Exchange in Riverhead, New York and volunteering as treasurer for many school and community organizations.

As their children grew, Lora and Dave embraced their love of travel, exploring the world together and making new friends along the way. They later settled in Vero Beach, Florida, where they created a close-knit community of friends at Del Mar. After Dave’s passing in 2005, Lora continued to travel and enjoy life alongside her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Lora was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, David J. Scanlan, Sr. She is survived by her sons, David J. Scanlan, Jr. and his wife, Mary Alice, of Sanibel Island, Florida, and James P. Scanlan and his wife, Laura, of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; and her daughter, Janet Sweeney and her husband, Patrick, of Boston, Massachusetts.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to Megan (Steve) and Ryan Scanlan; Christopher, Cailyn, and Meredith Scanlan; and Peter (Erin), Christopher, and Lauren Sweeney. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “GMa,” a name she cherished deeply. Her greatest joy was her great-granddaughter, Melanie.

Lora is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews and all of their children, whom she loved dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to a “Celebration of Life” Memorial Mass at Saint Cecilia Roman Catholic Church in Boston, Massachusetts, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 3:00 PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Treasure Coast.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
