Lorraine Arline Peterson, 87, of Vero Beach passed from this life to eternal life on Friday, February 19, 2016, at VNA Hospice House.

Born March 16, 1928, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Mildred Johnson.

Upon her marriage to Axel Peterson, Jr., she moved to Vero Beach in 1955 where they began their family, while she assisted her husband as he began his citrus business.

Lorraine was a loving mother and homemaker, and her prized possessions were her family and friends. Her legacy of faith in the Lord will live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of First Church of God in Vero Beach, where she faithfully served as a teller, and was also a volunteer with the IRMC Auxiliary for twenty years.

Lorraine is survived by her four children and spouses, Phyllis Kershner (Kevin) of Sebastian, Gayle Watson (Brian) of Vero Beach, Bonnie Carmine (William) of Sebastian, and Kenneth Peterson (Marsha) of Vero Beach; and brother, Gordon Johnson (Sue) of Colorado Springs, CO. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, Julie McFarlane (Jeffrey) of Vero Beach, Amy Brister (Sheldon) of Vero Beach, Kristi Jacobsen (Keith) of Vero Beach, Amanda Paholsky (Dan) of Cape Coral, Bruce Donaldson (Jennifer) of Wellington, Jeremy Donaldson of Westminster, CO, Jessica Peterson of Orlando, and Kendall Peterson of Vero Beach. Her ten great-grandchildren are Dylan, Jacob, Karl, Liliana, Hanalei, Abbigayle, Kailey, Kyler, Luke, and Hunter.

She was predeceased by her brother, Edwin Johnson, Jr., of Raleigh, NC.

Her large family was a great source of pride and joy, and she lovingly prepared many Sunday dinners, where everyone gathered around her dining room table after church. Lorraine also loved puzzles, reading, entertaining, enjoying lunch with friendsand always believed each day should be ended with a small bowl of ice cream. She had a sweet, gentle spirit, yet she made a huge impact in the lives of many.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 13, at 3:00 p.m. at First Church of God, 1105 58th Avenue, Vero Beach, with a reception immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God, or VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, in memory of Lorraine Peterson.
