Miguel “Mike” Angel Lopez, age 90, of Vero Beach, passed away on August 24, 2022, at VNA Hospice House.

He was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

Mike, SFC U.S. Army, entered military service in 1952, right after basic infantry training.  He was sent to Ft. Benning, GA for parachute training as he requested and was assigned to the 11th Airborne Division.  Three years later he went to Europe and served in 3 different infantry units.  Upon his return home Mike joined the Special Forces and retired from the 10th Special Forces as a Senior NCO.  He attended many special training schools.

Mike was a member of the 82nd Airborne for 1 year after which he attended the Special Warfare Center for 1 ½ years.  Upon graduation he was assigned to the 7th Special Forces in Central America and started with the newly formed 8th Special Forces in Panama serving for 7 years.

Mike completed 2 tours in Vietnam with the 5th Special Forces where he was wounded 4 times and was awarded the Bronze Star with “V” device, a Purple Heart, and 8 other citations and commendations.

Following his retirement from the military in 1973, Mike became the owner and operator of Mike’s Auto Service Center for over ten years.

He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Victoria “Vicky”, children Rose (David) Bland, Michael (Adis) Lopez, six grandchildren Michael (Adriana) and Julianne Bland, Gianna and Michael Lopez, and Albert Piniero, two great-grandchildren Isabelle and Brayden Bland, sister-in-law Aglaee Nicolas, three nephews and four nieces. Mike was also survived by his beloved Labrador, Sophie.

He was predeceased by his parents Demetrio and Maria Lopez, two sisters and a brother.

The family wishes to thank VNA and VNA Hospice for their wonderful support and care of Mike. Their support means a lot to us.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, September 1st, at St. John of the Cross, Vero Beach, with burial, on Friday, September 2nd, at 10 a.m., at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth.

Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL  32960.
Dogs for Life 1230 16th Ave, Vero Beach, FL 32960, or an animal shelter of your choice.
