Mitchell Clark Waddell, 60, passed into heavenly peace May 10, 2023, at his home in Vero Beach, Florida following a brief illness. Born October 18, 1962, in Lakeland, Florida, Mitch attended Lakeland Senior High School where he was an excellent student and lettered in track.  Following graduation, Mitch attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in Building Construction. Mitch loved Florida and after graduation from UF, he only applied to job opportunities along the Florida East Coast so that he could pursue his passion for surfing.  He worked in building construction until he could establish his own business as Waddell Contracting, Inc. in Vero Beach. He married his best friend, Tracy Scopinich of Vero Beach, on June 29, 1996.  Mitch was a loving and supportive husband to Tracy but lost her to cancer in March 2023. From a young age, Mitch was a devoted fan of the Dolphins.  After graduating from UF, he was also an avid Gators fan throughout his life. Mitch was preceded in death by his wife, Tracy.

He is survived by his parents, Clark and Melba Waddell of Lakeland, his sister Lisa Hiestand, Lakeland, and his sister April Brault (Justin-Pierre), Oviedo, Florida, one niece and three nephews.

Mitch will be remembered and honored at a service on Friday, June 16th, 2023, at 10:30am at Scott Lake Baptist Church, 5811 Scott Lake Drive, Lakeland, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Lighthouse Ministries.

I am so saddened by this news. Mitch, we were best friends during some very formative years while we learned how to be somewhat adult, while but not taking it too seriously and retaining the ability to laugh. Oh, how we laughed! Anything was fair game, and we laughed until our sides hurt.

Mr. and Mrs. Waddell, I spent many a night and weekend sleeping in your pool room. I am so sorry for your family’s loss. Unfortunately, I am out of the country and will be unable to get back in time for the service, but you all will be in my heart that day. – John Morgan
