Paul Edward Rox passed away alone at home on Wednesday, May 20 at the age of 71. He was born in East Orange, NJ and grew up the second of four children in the towns of East Hanover and Sparta, NJ. His favorite activities as a boy were playing baseball, fishing, playing drums and working as a cook in the family restaurant.

Paul was a quiet person; he kept his thoughts and his problems to himself. He did not make friends easily, but his close friends were very important to him. After leaving the family business in his late teen years, Paul spent time as a landscaper and working again as a cook and restaurant manager in various places. Eventually he migrated from New Jersey to Florida along with other members of the Rox clan. Later in life he returned to one of his boyhood activities and became an avid fly fisherman. He would spend a few weeks several summers with his brother fishing the rivers of New Hampshire.

Paul was plagued with a drinking problem most of his adult life, but eventually he gave his life to Jesus Christ after enrolling in Christian rehab programs at Dunklin Memorial Farm and Faith Farm – both located in central Florida. After completing these recovery programs, he spent his best years on staff at these institutions working to help young men in recovery and running food kitchens. Paul loved to cook for large groups of people – he had the gift of hospitality. Seeing up to 70 men enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner brought him great joy. He also loved playing drums in various worship bands at local Florida churches.

After Paul left working at Faith Farm, his life was a struggle once again. He lived in isolation and fell back into drinking. His family encouraged him to recover, and he had some good times mixed in with the bad. His family loved him and prayed for his deliverance. Jesus Christ loved him even more and finally brought him home where there is no more struggle or strife. Paul will be missed.

Paul was predeceased by his father, Edward L. Rox. Family survivors include his mother Arline W. Rox (100), older brother David (72), and younger sisters Judith Rox Klima (69), and Carole Rox Nix (64). The family will conduct a private memorial service in New Hampshire in July.

Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Paul to Faith Farm; 7595 Northeast 128th Ave., Okeechobee, FL 34972; 863-763-4224.
