Rita M. Callahan, 92, of Indian River Estates, Vero Beach FL went home to the Lord January 13, 2016, eager to see her patron saint, St. Rita, and her mother and father, Mildred and John Kress. Rita succumbed to a heart and lung failure at Indian River VNA Hospice House.

Rita was born in Rochester, NY and following grade school and high school joined the US Marines during WW II. She had a lifelong interest in all things US Marines and would often let folks know that she was a Marine just after she introduced herself. She was married for 70 years to Lawrence H. Callahan also living at Indian River Estates. The Callahans have been living in various Florida communities for the past 30 years, the most recent being the Harmony Island community of Grand Harbor in Vero Beach where they were founding members.

Rita leaves her loving husband, Lawrence and her nephew, Norman Kolb and his wife, Shirley of Fredericksburg, VA. She also leaves numerous friends around the country who she kept in contact with via telephone Jesse Glass, Jean Lapple, Pat Mahoney, Claudia Costello, Louise McGee and many others too numerous to mention. May she rest in peace.
