Robert Bartlett Gilman passed away peacefully on May 30, 2017, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. He was 94 years old. Robert was born on April 7, 1923 in Rahway, NJ to Randolph and Marion Gilman. He graduated from Rahway High School and served in the United States Navy during WWII. He attended Duke University and graduated from the University of Miami in 1948. Robert worked for many years for Chevron USA in Perth Amboy, NJ retiring in 1984. He was an avid bowler, golfer and lover of all sports. His favorite teams were the New York Mets and the New York Giants. He enjoyed umpiring for Girls’ Softball. Many happy memories were made as he watched his grandson grow and play on many sports teams throughout the years.

Robert moved to Vero Beach in 2004. He spent time here with his friends and family, beating them at golf and enjoying the beautiful weather. Robert was predeceased by his parents and his brother Bruce Gilman. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Charlie Hommel, Vero Beach, FL, and 2 sons, Gary and Bobby of Olathe, KS. He leaves behind 1 grandson and 4 granddaughters, Charlie and Angelica Hommel, Colonia, NJ, Melinda Hommel, Port Reading, NJ, Cali Gilman, Brooklyn, NY, Kate Gilman, Kansas City, MO and Jenny Gilman, Kansas City, MO. Robert was also the Great Grandfather of CJ, Dylan, and Hailey Hommel, Colonia, NJ and William Hommel, Port Reading, NJ.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
