Robert Henry Lord, Sr. (�Bob�), age 80, a resident of Wilmington N.C. and a part-time resident of Vero Beach, FL died on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at VNA Hospice House of Indian River County in Vero Beach, FL.

Bob was born on September 22, 1934 in Greenfield, Mass. He was the oldest son of Albert Lyndon and Thelma Carpenter Lord. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1952.

Bob served as a E-5 Officer in the U.S. Navy on-board the USS Grand Canyon from 1952 to 1955. He received awards for Mediterranean Occupation, European Occupation, National Defense and Good Conduct. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Turners Falls, Mass. He was a member of The American Legion and the Elk�s Lodge #1774 in Vero Beach, FL.

In 1989, he retired from Northeast Utilities� Northfield Mt. Power Project in Northfield, Mass., after 30 years with the company, and moved to Wilmington, NC., where he married Joyce Collier in 2005. He and Joyce enjoyed cruising, traveling, ballroom dancing, gardening and became �snowbirds� in Vero Beach, FL in 2010. They were members of Ogden Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC.

Bob is predeceased by his parents and two former spouses; Vesta Behmer Lord and Irene Burnett Lord.

In addition to his wife, Joyce, Bob is survived by his children: Brenda Jill Martin (Robert) of West Burke, Vermont, Sandra Ann Thackrah (Mark) of Remsen, NY, Robert Lord, Jr. (Dawn) of Albany, NY, and Julie Anne Lord of Deerfield, Mass., five stepchildren including a special step-son and dear friend, John Burnett (Susan) of Wilmington, NC., seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two brothers, Rev. David Lord (Katherine) of Knoxville, Tenn., and Richard Lord of Summerville, SC, several nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.

Bob was a hard worker and a devoted father, step-father and grandfather. He enjoyed dancing the polka and playing softball. He was a stylish dresser who was known for his humorous stories, and his ability to mix cocktails, including his specialty: a classic Manhattan.

A Memorial Service will take place on July 10, 2015 at 4 pm, at the Masonic Lodge in Turners Falls, Mass. The family is grateful for condolences but declines flowers and donations.
