Roberta Jane Garretson, 86, of Vero Beach, Florida passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Indian River Medical Center.

She was born on October 8, 1927 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the daughter of Roy and Maude Latham.

Roberta grew up in the same town she was born and met her husband of 61 years, Alan Garretson, in 1943. They married in 1950 and raised their children in East Millstone, NJ.

Together, the family owned and operated a trucking company based in East Millstone.

Roberta had been a resident of Vero Beach since moving from Bay Head, NJ in 1994.

Upon their arrival to Vero Beach, the family settled into a home on the water in the community of Cache Cay where they developed many dear friendships.

Roberta was a member of the Jasmine Circle of the Vero Beach Garden Club where she enjoyed the company of the members and participating in it’s activities.

Roberta leaves her daughter, Shelley Krauszer, and her husband, Joseph,of Vero Beach; son-in-law, Robert Stillman; brother-in-law, Robert Garretson and his wife, Helen; granddaughter-in-law, Mary;five grandchildren, Kris, Jon, Jak, Garrett and Laura and two great grandchildren, August and Maggie Krauszer; as well as close nieces and nephews.

Roberta was predeceased by her two older brothers, Ken, who died in WWII, and Ralph. She was also pre-deceased by her husband, Alan, daughter, Suzanne, and son, Peter.

A gathering will be held at the Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home, 1655 27th Street, Vero Beach, on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 10 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers,donations may be made in her memory to The Source, P.O. Box 2458, Vero Beach, FL 32961.

Roberta was a very good, kind woman and a strong person who believed in “family first.”

She will be missed greatly by her family and the many close friends she made in Vero Beach.
