William “Bill” Bauman, 91, of Vero Beach, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at his home after a period of declining health.
Bill was born on November 19, 1925 in Owensboro, Kentucky to Charles and Georgia Bauman. He had a happy childhood growing up in Owensboro. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy in the Fall 1943, he served as an airplane mechanic until 1946. He subsequently enrolled at the University of Kentucky and graduated with an Engineering degree in the Spring of 1950. Bill dated Dorothy Allen during college and they were married in June 1951. They lived in Ft. Worth, Texas for 10 years. During that time Bill worked for Convair-General Dynamics and earned a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Southern Methodist University. In 1961 Bill accepted a job at Martin Marietta in Orlando and worked in various capacities such as aerodynamic analyst, group leader and systems manager for missile projects and manager of the Aerophysics Department until he retired in 1991.
Bill and Dorothy lived in Orlando for 4 years and then moved to Winter Park in 1965. Bill lived in his Winter Park home for 47 years. During these years Bill had several hobbies: making fine furniture, researching genealogies, reading history books and undertaking home improvement projects. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy in 1996 and moved to Vero Beach in 2012. He is survived by: daughters and sons-in-laws, Elizabeth (Terry) Oas of Durham, NC; Catherine (Marc) Cleversey of Vero Beach; grandchildren, Alicia, Julia and Peter (Oas); and Hannah, Jessica and Christina (Cleversey). He is also survived by his brother-in-law Harry (Betty) Allen.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the University Club of Winter Park, 841 North Park Avenue, Winter Park, Florida, 32789. Friends are welcome to attend the service and reception afterwards.
