William Carl “Bill” Narhi, age 64, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2020 in Vero Beach, Florida, after an impressive battle with small-cell lung cancer. His spirited efforts in this battle allowed him to spend his final months in the care of his loving daughter, Megan “Shawn” Silver and his immensely loyal friends, Tony and Kevin.

Bill was born in Ashtabula, Ohio to John and Mary Narhi. He is survived by his daughter and brothers, Lawrence “Larry” Narhi and John “Jack” Narhi, as well as his three nieces, Laura, Sarah, and Stephanie.

Bill was a loving father with a passion for revelry, motorcycles, and culinary arts.

Bill led an incredible career as a Certified Executive Chef, working at private clubs and fine dining establishments, winning numerous awards, teaching at the Culinary Arts Institute of Louisiana, and finally serving as the Executive Chef of Vero Beach Yacht Club from 2013 until his passing.

Bill was as adventurous as he was talented. In 2010, he rode his Victory motorcycle across the country (and through Canada) to complete a tour of 49 states.

Bill was loved by everyone, especially those with a sense of humor. His ability to bring laughter and joy to others was immediately evident to anyone around him. Bill was not only the “life of the party,” he was also the caterer, the entertainment, and often, the overzealous bartender.

Bill’s legacy will live on in his countless recipes and in the many stories of his adventures and antics that his family and friends will share for years to come.

Bill did not want a funeral service, but if you wish to raise a glass in his honor, you will be in good company at Rosie Malloy’s Pub.

Arrangements by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

As a current Member and Past Commodore of Vero Beach Yacht Club, please be assured that Bill was the finest Executive Chef we have ever had. His culinary creativity thoroughly impressed our 650 Members whether it be lunch, dinner, Sunday Breakfast Buffet or when we hosted Private Parties and organizational meetings. His Club Barbecues were the best! We could always count on wonderful appetizers, main dishes, salads and Bill’s special desserts. Our kitchen and serving staff and Club Management were very impressed with his abilities. Our Members felt privileged that Bill chose VBYC to serve as it was often said that the variety, quality and originality of our food was far super to food found at other local clubs. Certain Private Club staff are often deemed to be irreplaceable. Bill was one of those “special” employees.

Bill was my first chef in 1989 at the South Carolina Yacht Club in Hilton Head. I have thought of him often and fondly over the years. I was one week out of college when we met. I was amazed at what he could do with food. I was asked to helped plan parties for the club. I had NO idea what to do. Bill said if you want to learn, I will teach you. And that he did. He had to start from the beginning which he may not have known when he offered his help. He decided that since chicken fingers were my favorite meal, he needed to introduce me to new things. Every night, after service he would bring out the special. Regardless of what it was, I had to try it. Braised rabbit with cream sauce and julienne vegetables was my first tasting and it was fabulous. I tried everything, once as agreed. I learned more from him in such a short time but I never had a chance to thank him for preparing me so well to do my job. Thank you Chef!! To his family and friends, my most sincere condolences for your loss.
