William “Gene” Eugene Chesser, age 83, passed away April 13, 2024, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL.

Mr. Chesser was born in Florahome, Florida on January 1, 1941, and moved to Vero Beach, Florida as a small child.

He proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army.

Mr. Chesser retired from Bechtel Group of Companies, holding the position of Construction Superintendent from 1982 to 2007.

He was a Member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He was at one time assistant business agent for Local Union 323 based out of Palm Beach. This year (2024) marked 60 years as a member.

He was a graduate of Vero Beach High School, Class of 1958

Survivors include his son, James Chesser; brothers, James Smith and Richard Smith; niece, Lynn Hailey; good friends, Ken and Diane Strickland and numerous other friends and extended family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jeannie Chesser; daughter, Melanie Chesser; mother, Dorothy Smith; father, William O. Chesser; stepfather, Sammy A. Smith; brother, Philip Chesser; and sister, Alma Fred.

A gathering of friends and family will be held 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m., May 11, 2024 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice, 920 37th Place, #101, Vero Beach, Florida 32960.
